When you walk into an audio store demo room you can see all\u00a0their\u00a0speakers lined up. With me it’s\u00a0completely\u00a0different. When\u00a0you\u00a0walk in you see only one\u00a0pair\u00a0of speakers in my demo\/living room. Here’s a problem — I find that even people who visit often think\u00a0that\u00a0they are seeing it all. NO. NO. NO.<\/p>\n
Behind a door just steps away I have all my other demo speakers. By “demo\u00a0speakers” I mean speakers that are out of the box, broken in, sitting there ready to be brought in for listening.<\/p>\n
I have ALL the GoldenEar Technology tower and bookshelf speaker’s\u00a0lurking\u00a0there, just waiting for someone to ask to hear them. If you make an appointment I will have the ones you want waiting in the\u00a0demo\u00a0room. If you want to hear another?? People\u00a0think it’s big deal to swap speakers. NO. NO. NO. It’s not as fast as an Indy pit stop, but I am very\u00a0practiced, so it’s\u00a0very easy, and\u00a0pretty fast. I use a mini hand truck to wheel the big speakers in and out, and banana\u00a0plugs for quick connect.\u00a0Easy\u00a0peasey.<\/p>\n
The demo itself is more like going to a friend’s house for a listening session than\u00a0undergoing\u00a0a high-end store\u00a0sales presentation. You can bring what you want to hear (a good idea\u00a0because\u00a0I’m sure our tastes in music are not identical.), or we can find\u00a0something\u00a0you like among Tidal\u00a0streaming\u00a0service’s 40 million tracks. You can listen as long as you want, and there is no pressure. I am mostly\u00a0retired;\u00a0I’m still in\u00a0this\u00a0business for love of music,\u00a0interest\u00a0in the\u00a0components that play it, and the company of other audiophiles. And so all the time I spend\u00a0playing\u00a0with my stereo I can tell my wife “It’s business.” Priceless.<\/p>\n
