The 7.3 improvements over the 7.1:<\/p>\n

The\u00a0reviewer’s\u00a0personal\u00a0reference\u00a0table is the Kuzma Stabi-S ($2156 without cartridge) which is a\u00a0TAS\u00a0GoldenEar Award\u00a0winner. While he liked the 7.3\u00a0enough\u00a0to say that\u00a0in its price range\u00a0it would be “…at the top of his list”, but he still\u00a0preferred\u00a0his Kuzma, so while the 7.3 is tops at its price it does not kill the best of its higher priced competitors.\u00a0I wonder how the MMF 9.3 ($2195\u00a0without cartridge)\u00a0would compare to the $2156 Kuzma?<\/p>\n
Now about cartridges,\u00a0because\u00a0he tried three models in the 7.3:<\/p>\n
He\u00a0was not pleased by\u00a0the $440 Ortofon 2M Bronze that came on his table. OK, we know cartridges have individual\u00a0personalities, but since the general\u00a0consensus\u00a0of reviewers is that the 2M\u00a0Ortofon\u00a0cartridges\u00a0are excellent we have to consider that he has a distinct taste.<\/p>\n
Then he installed the\u00a0$995 Goldring\u00a0Elite and sure enough he found that $995 beats $440. He preferred the\u00a0additional\u00a0detail, ambiance, spaciousness, etc. of the Goldring.<\/p>\n
Then he installed his personal cartridge, the Denon DL103, which he liked best. He described it as “…warm-blooded, almost intuitive…” compared to the Goldring’s “…triumphant resolution…”.. Not so much detail, but he preferred it. It almost\u00a0read\u00a0like a tube vs, transistor review. Remember – it’s his\u00a0cartridge.<\/p>\n
BUT WAIT – he then tried putting the 7.3 on a 2″ Mapleshade Platform ($75 unfinished) and reported major improvements in “bass heft and textural gravitas”, plus “…calming the\u00a0overabundance\u00a0of\u00a0air”.<\/p>\n
I like that he said that he said\u00a0“The MMF 7.3 revealed the character of each cartridge with decided neutrality.”<\/strong> That’s a very high recommendation.
